We were going to stop naming our coffees after booze but then this Brazil came along with a profile matching its alcoholic cousin far too closely to ignore. Packed with big chocolate sweetness, backed up by subtle green apple acidity and finishing on a heavy, lusciously lingering cacao note, this coffee has quickly become a reliable friend of ours.
Everything you could ever want for a familiar, everyday brew.
We taste
Black: Green apple, sherry, dark chocolate
Milk: Honeycomb, calvados, milk chocolate
Decaf doesn't have to be a choice between decent sleep and a tasty brew as clearly evidenced by this divine example. Sugarcane decaffeination imparts a golden syrup profile over this classically citric washed Colombian that's so good you'd swear you'll be up all night.
No compromise decaf? I'll take three!
We taste
Black: Golden syrup, toasted nuts, lemonade
Milk: Milk chocolate, honey, lemon
Easily one of our favourite brews of the year, this red berry co-fermented Colombian is a big, black forest gateaux slap in the face bursting with sweet acidity. Expect notes of kirsch, dark chocolate and caramel delivered by a hefty texture making for a true dessert of a coffee.
We taste
Black: Black forest gateaux, grape, lime
Milk: Kirsch, dark chocolate, black cherry
Would we even be a northern roastery without a coffee that tastes like Vimto? Good job we found this exceptional Peru that reminds us of those classic blackcurrant-y Kenyan profiles with an additional candied fruit acidic kick.
We taste
Black: Blackcurrant, pear, banana
Milk: Blackberry jam, raisin, almond
Do you like Jolly Ranchers? Yeah? This is the brew for you; honey processing provides all the sweetness you could ever ask for before 72 hours of green apple co-fermentation rounds out the profile with Appletiser-esque acidity.
A genuinely stunning cup full of unexpected flavours you're unlikely to find anywhere else.
We taste
Black: Green apple, mandarin, lime
Milk: Apple crumble, caramel, shortbread
Can you even count yourself as a modern specialty coffee roaster without a gesha on your offer list? We sampled every one we could get our hands on before coming across this stunner of a natural that features all the sweetness and delicacy the varietal is known for delivered by literal liquid silk. Expect big orange blossom acidity, muscovado sweetness, complex florals and that unmistakeable gesha elegance.
We taste
Black: Orange blossom, grapefruit, brown sugar
Milk: Brown sugar, citrus, delicate
Combining the glorious effects of caffeine with the flavour complexity of every functional alcoholics' favourite cocktail, this Costa Rica is the one to reach for when you need an extra strong start to the day.
Rich, luxurious and deep - expect heavy red cherry and boozy botanicals that'll stay with you long after you've finished the cup.
We taste
Black: Negroni, red cherry, botanicals
Milk: Plum, muscovado, boozy
Running late and forgot to brush your teeth this morning? This coffee's got you covered.
Seemingly designed for our Funky program, we can guarantee that you've never had a brew like this one before; this washed Castillo undergoes a 45 day post-harvest mint infusion to impart a delicate, sparkling peppermint sweetness that combines beautifully with the coffees' inherent milk chocolate notes.
An outstanding and delightfully weird cup.
We taste
Black: Peppermint, chocolate, port
Milk: After Eights, choc chip ice cream
Easily the weirdest coffee we've come across so far and one for the more adventurous out there, our overarching impression of this coffee has been its surprisingly pleasant savoury profile. While unexpected, the umami base coming from the balsamic notes contributes an effective counter balance to the intensely sweet pineapple and citric acidity.
We taste
Black: Grilled pineapple, lime, balsamic
Milk: Turrón, raisin, almond
